Like many of you, at CAMI Health we are profoundly upset by the brutal killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the many others who have suffered and lost their lives due to systemic racism and police violence. We recognize the devastating impacts that racism and structural and institutional inequities have on the health and wellbeing of Black and Brown communities across the United States. The COVID-19 pandemic is no exception and has shed light on the enormous disparities that put Black and Brown lives at a disproportionate risk for illness and death.
As a voice for reproductive health and justice for nearly 20 years, CAMI Health is staunchly committed to addressing the barriers that impede health and human rights, not just for women but for their families and communities. This includes the right to raise a family in a safe and healthy environment, and for a mother not to live in constant fear for the safety of her child simply due to the color of his/her skin.
We cannot and must not remain silent in the face of racial injustice. We raise our voices in solidarity with Black leaders and communities in calling for accountability and action to end police violence and all forms of racism. Addressing systemic racism and the other challenges our society is facing is complex and will not be easy. As hundreds of thousands of people have come out this past week to demand change, we join those committed to help make this change a reality.
